Recently Local Health and Safety Committee (LHSC) #80 teamed up with the Cable Department to update hazardous confined spaces a.k.a. manholes. A detailed list of all the manholes can be found in LHSC #80 minutes. After spending a week investigating confined space hazards more specifically manholes in the downtown core, I was amazed that more cable techs aren’t seriously injured on the job. Some of these manholes were so congested that entry would be impossible. The condition of some of these manholes even surprised the cable tech I was riding with. The biggest surprise was that some of these manholes had approved funding for rebuild since 2004 but still lie in a state of disrepair. I have put together a PDF document which indicates the confined spaces that have been reported as hazardous to LHSC#80 and an updated status. The PDF document also has some photos that give the reader a better understanding of just how bad the confined space manholes really are.
I would also like to take this time and thank Gary Daniels, Ed Stojanowski, and Rob Miller, without there help this project would have not been possible.
Stay Safe,
